I am a huge fan of Japanese culture. The game idea came from classic 80s retro joke where the High school delinquent in Japan influenced by Western glam rock, movies and shoulder pad fashion trend, thinking the longer the hair = the cooler they will be.
I thought it would be hilarious to have a character that grow power by increasing the length of the hair and shoulder pad size. Just imagine the character smashing enemies with hair from half of the screen.
What would be the most humiliating punishment to Japanese high school delinquent in 80s and do they value the most? Their hair!
I designed the health to be equal to the character's hair length. More health = more hair and bulky shoulder = more attack range = more powerful. When dealing damage to enemies, the character will snatch their hair and shoulder pad and will turn to bald and have a mental break down (game over) when health drops to 0.
The game was heavily inspired from the classic FC game Nekketsu Renegade Kunio-Kun. The original concept was to recreate the arcade feel of the 80s.

Designed attack options and randomized unique movement for each enemy.
The game has a total of 3 stage. Each stage contains waves of enemies with increased difficulty and combination. The reinforcement system is added mimic the classic arcade beat'em up mechanic and intensify the gameplay.
This was my first game jam and I am very proud of my team!
I have learned how to get things organized and collaborate with the team in all aspect to finish a game in tight schedule.
